"There once was a clever young Lad |
As a modern-day tale that draws on domestic and foreign legends, this production features three young people forced to confront their fears to overcome an evil witch. Perched on the edge of the world, lost on a mysterious island or burrowing under the earth, the young Lad must overcome his qualms, arm himself with courage just like his friends the Monkey and the Lonely-Girl before going down into an abyss and destroying the cause of their misfortune. Coupled with the movement, the live music and soundscape grippingly and evocatively depict the courage of children in our often forbidding world.change.

"There's an almost surefire way to tell if children enjoy a a show - you don't hear them except when they are laughing or responding to what is going on on-stage. This is what happened during the hour-long performance tonight. You could hear giggles and laughter when things were funny and small gasps when things were surprising. The adults seems to enjoy it as well..."
" Fairy tale fused with acrobatics
Thrice upon a time... is clever. Minimal dialogue, maximum physical exertion and magical lighting design
... Musician Jean-François Pednô... plays a pivotal role throughout, situating the environs with his percussive skills. We hear a bird's wings flutter and a woodpecker's clatter. We feel the warmth of the tropical forest and the force of a tropical storm as he coaxes his instruments to hum, pulsate , roar....
Thrice upon a time... relies heavily on shows of acrobatic strength, balance and tumbling skills, but it is never brash. Instead, directors Jacqueline Gosselin and Robert Dion infuse the stage with an aura of confident and controlled power. The smile seen exiting the theatre opening night verget on the serene..."
"... An outstanding example of such a timeless tale opened Thursday at Manitoba Theatre for Young People. A crowd of school kids, including many from the primary grades, was riveted to Thrice upon a time......"

“Thrice upon a time... is a superb production, a real hit. It's the best show that I've seen all season at Gros Becs.... It is near perfection... a magnificent production that will entertain every one.”
“... a work in which bodies speak as loudly as words... the structure allows the performers to play around with movement and space in a spectacular fashion. It also allows them to develop unique and dynamic esthetics.... The characters' actions are admirably enhanced by the music.”
“A very acrobatic performance, for the three actors, very physical, very athletic. It really will appeal to kids.”
"I very much enjoyed the production. Very atmospheric, visually stunning and clever."
"... one of the best things I have ever seen."
"Just seen your show in Sligo, Ireland. FANTASTIC, and all my kids 5, 6, and 8 yrs loved it. ... A great mixture of comedy, scary bits, acrobatics and magical music! Well done and thank you for coming to Ireland."
